Facilities:

Matthews Community Center
opened in 1907 as the Town's first public school. Over the decades, the classic brick schoolhouse was expanded to meet the demands of this growing community. When the aging building faced demolition in the 1990's, the Town of Matthews stepped in with a multi-million dollar restoration effort. Now a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmark, the Community Center provides a vital link between Matthews' picturesque past and dynamic future. The center also houses Fullwood Theatre - home of the Matthews Playhouse. Community Center Hours: Monday through Friday: 9 AM to 8 PM; Saturday: 9 AM to 2 PM; Sunday: 1 PM to 6 PM

Crews Road Recreation Center is the Town of Matthews' first indoor recreation center - it opened in 2006. The Recreation Center is located at 1201 Crews Rd. (behind Matthews Police Station). The Recreation Center offers a variety of programs, athletic leagues and classes to the Matthews community. Call for open gym hours.

McDowell Arts Center is located at 123 McDowell Street, adjacent to the Matthews Community Center. The former Agriculture Building was built in the 1920s as an extension of the old Matthews High School. In 2008 the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System transferred the building to the Town. The "MAC" is a dedicated space for the Arts!  The facility is home to a wide variety of art related classes and programs, as well as gallery space.   The McDowell Arts Center is also home to KidzArt and the Matthews Artists Guild!
