The Town of Matthews is seeking applicants for its newly-instituted Cultural Diversity Council.
Matthews strives to be a vibrant, diverse, and livable community that fosters innovation, enriches the lives of all its residents, visitors and business community and embraces intentional community engagement. The Town believes in the inherent dignity and worth of every human being and that the community can become stronger, more cohesive and more interesting by embracing its diversity. It affirms that our community should always be guided by the principles of inclusion, equity, non-favoritism, sensitivity, respect, flexibility and reasonableness.
The role of the Cultural Diversity Council is to act in an advisory capacity to the Town’s Board of Commissioners on issues relating to anti-discrimination and pro-diversity for historically marginalized communities, including those of minority race, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, national origin, cultural identification, and family structure. The Council will act as a source of vision and direction for anti-discrimination and pro-diversity actions in the Town of Matthews.
A diverse Council membership is sought, including those from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities.
