The Matthews Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resource Department will preserve and enhance the quality of life with dynamic and accessible programs, facilities, services and the promotion of tourism. The department strives to create a strong sense of community through individual, environmental, social and economic impacts.
Established in 1995, the department offers a wide variety of service, leisure programs, activities and opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities. Park facilities, greenways and open space also provide recreational opportunities for citizens and surrounding communities.

2016-2017 Tourism Grant Application
The Town of Matthews is offering a tourism grant designed to provide financial assistance to non-profit organizations that deliver programs or events promoting tourism and/or visitation to Matthews. The grant is funded through hotel occupancy and prepared food/beverage taxes.
Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. Friday, September 30. This link will download an application, provides more details about eligibility, scoring criteria, fiscal accountability requirements for grant recipients, and a progress schedule.
