The primary functions of this Department are street and sidewalk construction and
maintenance (including street rights-of-way), solid waste and recycling collection, parks
maintenance and landscaping, fleet maintenance, building maintenance and storm water construction and
maintenance.
The Public Works Director is C.J. O'Neill, PE. Mr. O'Neill has served the Town since 2006 and can be reached at 704-708-1242 or
e-mail.
The Public Works Department is located at 1600 Tank Town Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
Hours of operation are: Monday through Friday 8 am - 4 pm.
FREE YARD WASTE BAGS
Planning some yard
work? Consider using paper bags rather than plastic for
leaves & grass clippings. They're compostable and
better for the environment. Together with Mecklenburg County, the Town
of Matthews is giving out FREE brown lawn and leaf bags at Matthews
Public Works located at 1600 Tank Town Road in Matthews. Hours for pick
up are 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. First come first served. Limit of 10 bags per
resident.

* New trash can colors:
As of May 26, 2017 trash cans that are replaced or provided to new residences will be blue with a black lid, instead of the current blue. This is a result of Republic Services new company standard. Republic will continue to service the blue cans for trash also.
