Town of Matthews
- Administrative Division
Much of what it takes to keep the police department running goes on 'behind the scenes.' But that does not mean that we wish to keep it is out of the public's eye; openness and transparency is our goal. From providing information through this web site, and through our various social media platforms, to openly encouraging & inviting citizen participation within our organization - through our Citizens Volunteer Corp - we strive towards that goal.

About This Division -  This group consists of the of the Records / Public Office and the office of the Chief of Police. Our Records Office is staffed by three full-time members: our Records Manager and two full-time Records Clerks. Assisted by several members of our Citizens Volunteer Corp, this staff manages the day-to-day responsibilities of verification & accountability of all of the reports & records received generated and/or retained by the police department. They also assist all visitors to the department and all public and/or professional requests of the department. The chief of police is responsible for the overall management & accountability of the services provided by the department and the personnel and volunteers who work to achieve our goals.

About Chief Rob Hunter -    Rob Hunter, who joined the Police Department in August of 1987 as a patrol officer, was selected as the town's Police Chief in 1993. He has witnessed Matthews grow from a small town of about 5,000 to a thriving community of more than 28,000 residents. During his tenure, the police department has also grown - from 17 full-time employees in 1993 to a current staff of more than eighty full and part-time employees. Rob and his family have lived in Matthews for many years, where he has been actively involved in local service organizations and his church youth group.

"While all of my direct law enforcement experience has been with the Town of Matthews, I have had the opportunity to meet and work with members of agencies throughout the country. I can state without hesitation that I am serving with the most professional , dedicated and well-trained staff I know, and we enjoy the great fortune of serving the finest community in this state."
- Chief Rob Hunter
