The Matthews Police Department is committed to open dialog and communication with our visitors, residents, and business owners. Our desire to bolster our already strong presence on social media and accessibility through digital formats, has enabled us to launch our new mobile app, as well as our new media release distribution feature and tip line on our web page!
The Matthews Police Department will use these new tools to stay connected with you and ensure our community partnership remains strong.
The new mobile app will enable you to notify us of things that are important to you and allows you to submit crime and / or traffic tips, either anonymously or by providing your contact information for a follow up. From the app, you are afforded the opportunity to check our crime maps, see if you recognize suspects from some of our open cases, send us your location if you are lost and need police assistance and much, much more.
So now you may be saying to yourself: “I follow the Matthews Police Department on Facebook and Twitter so, I don’t really need this app”. Not true! When we say it is a one stop shop, we mean it. You can access our social media sites from the app, and should you want to provide us feedback on how we are doing you will have that option as well. You can commend or submit complaints on your interactions with police employees and explore our greenways by using a preloaded map to enhance your experience. We encourage everyone that lives and works here, sometimes attend events here, goes to school here, or is just one of our many commuters in the mornings and afternoons, to download this app! This is an excellent opportunity for you to stay informed and stay connected to things that are happening in the Matthews area, whether its crime & safety, traffic or special events related.
To download the new mobile app through the Apple or Google Play stores follow this link: https://www.apexmobile.net/app/matthews-police-department/ or search Matthews Police Department.
Media / Press Releases
From our new Media / Press Release page of our website, you can now sign up to be on our distribution list. What this means is that once you’ve signed up, whenever we send out a media release to the local news outlets, you yourself will receive the same one by email at exactly the same time. Please click on the link below to sign up for this great feature, then click on the link labeled “Subscribe to Media Releases”, scroll down to “News & Information”, check the box listed “Police Department Media / Press Releases”, type in the correct code from the shown image, then click “Save” and you are done! If you do not wish to sign up for this feature, you can still monitor this page of the website where the releases will be posted for public view at the same time they are distributed.
The Matthews Police Department seeks to be inclusive of all visitors and we understand some choose to not carry a smartphone or smart device, thus not allowing them to take advantage of the web page or mobile app. To accommodate everyone and to provide an additional resource to all, the Matthews Police Department accepts crime tips by phone at: 704.841.6787. You can provide the information anonymously or provide contact information to receive a follow-up from the patrol officer or detective handling the case.
If you have any questions about the information provided above, please contact the department’s Public Information Officer, Officer Tim Aycock at: [email protected] or 704.841.6754.
