On Tuesday August 7, 2018 neighborhoods throughout Matthews are invited to join thousands of communities nationwide for the 35th annual “National Night Out.” This is an annual event that encourages neighborhoods to gather as a community and get to know one another, along with your local police Officers. National Night Out is sponsored by Target and the event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships, while also sending a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized in their commitment to keeping their homes and families safe. The recommended event times are from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. For more information, or to register your Matthews neighborhood for this year’s National Night Out, please contact Officer Tim Aycock at: [email protected] or 704-841-6754. The deadline to register your neighborhood is Friday July 27, 2018.
This year, we will also have a National Night Out event on that same night of August 7th at the town green which is located in front of Matthews’s town hall at 232 Matthews Station St. from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All Matthews’s neighborhoods are invited to this event, where thanks to some of the local restaurants, you and your family will be able to enjoy food specials along with a bounce house for the kids. Matthews Police and Fire will be there along with representatives from the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office who will be available to answer any of your questions regarding our county’s criminal prosecution process. There will also be representatives from a variety of home security companies to answer any questions you may have regarding your home security and what may be best for your family’s needs.
It doesn’t matter which Matthews neighborhood you are from, please come out and let’s join together as a community. When we use times like this to get to know each other, we only continue to strengthen our commitment of keeping our property and families safe.
