Drug Arrests

On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at approximately 6:38 P.M., Vice / Narcotics Detectives along with Officers from the Matthews Police Department were conducting surveillance on the residence of 224 Newburg Ln., Matthews in reference to narcotics activity.  Detectives witnessed what was believed to be a hand to hand narcotics transaction that occurred at the residence, with a male in a vehicle that had just arrived.  Detectives followed the vehicle and later initiated a traffic stop on I-485.  After further investigation, it was discovered that the driver, identified as Mr. Alvin Najera, was in possession of Heroin that had just been purchased at the residence on Newburg Ln.  Due to these findings, Matthews Vice / Narcotics Detectives contacted the resident of the Newburg Ln. home who was identified as Mr. Benjamin Westmoreland.  After speaking to Detectives, Mr. Westmoreland gave written consent to search the home.  Within the home, more Heroin and narcotics paraphernalia were found.  Both were arrested and charged with the following:

Benjamin Westmoreland (DOB – 07/26/1990) 

Sell Heroin

Possession of Heroin

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Non - Marijuana)

Suspect - Westmoreland, Benjamin

Alvin Najera (DOB – 10/29/1990)

Possession of Heroin

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Non - Marijuana)

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Marijuana)

Suspect - Najera, Alvin
