On Friday, June 21, 2019, at approximately 9:06 a.m., Matthews officers responded to the 300 block of N. Trade St. regarding a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.  Upon officer’s arrival, they observed an unresponsive female.  Sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the scene by Medic and identified as Ms. Fanny Dolores Bunn (DOB – 02/02/1938) of Matthews.  This is an ongoing investigation that is being conducted by members of the Matthews Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team.  No charges have been filed at this time.

We encourage all drivers to please be extra cautious and aware of pedestrians as we are experiencing more pedestrian traffic in our growing community, especially in the downtown area.  Please take a moment to follow the provided links below on pedestrian and distracted driving safety tips.
