November 11, 2019
On Monday, November 11, 2019, at approximately 3:07 p.m., the Matthews Police Department received notice from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Aviation Unit that they were following a stolen vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Monroe Rd. towards Matthews. This vehicle was described as a dark colored BMW.
The vehicle was located by Matthews officers as it entered Matthews, in which officers engaged in a brief pursuit in an attempt to get the suspect to stop. This pursuit was discontinued by officers shortly thereafter due to the erratic driving of the suspect. The CMPD Aviation Unit was able to continue to relay information to Matthews officers and informed them that two suspects got out of the vehicle and ran into the woods in the 2100 block of E. John St.
Matthews, CMPD and Stallings officers, along with deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office quickly arrived on scene and assisted with the search of the suspects. After a perimeter was established, a methodical search of the area was conducted by Matthews and CMPD K-9 officers.
Unfortunately, the suspects were not located, but due to the extensive search by officers and K-9’s, we do not have any reason to believe the suspects are still the area.
They are described as two white males in their 20’s to early 30’s with pending charges of:
Possession of a Stolen Vehicle;
Felony Fleeing to Elude.
We would like to thank all the assisting agencies for their partnership in this coordinated effort.
